My International Marketing Class at Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona (UAB) consisted of analyzing different multinational companies through various lenses. It was one of the most interactive classes I have ever taken and I enjoyed it very much. A major part of the class was cultivating presentations that displayed our knowledge on such subjects. The first project topic was provided to us and students got to choose the topic for the second project.
“Zara’s Position in the Global Market”
Research pulled from 2003 Harvard Case Study “Zara: Fast Fashion”
The objective was to choose a company, discuss its current positioning, and estimate its success in a country where it currently does not operate. Many factors discussed in this project were verbally communicated. Important things to consider are:
Singapore is characterized as a small country, region, and city
Warby Parker currently only sells in the U.S. and Canada
Warby Parker outsources the materials and construction of glasses; however, they handle shipments to customers and practice an in-house design process
They outsource from the same place in China as their major competitor, Essilor Luxottica
Warby Parker controls much of their value chain to their ability, as they are a relatively new company, so they compete with producers of glasses and retailers, such as the luxury brands Louis Vuitton or Chanel
Warby Parker’s current programming allows its app to only be downloaded on iPhones; their app is an essential part of their unique try-on and trial services
